I received a new battery late yesterday.  I charged it fully and began using it this morning.  It is only performing so-so.  I just noticed that only about 75% of the tip lights up when I draw on it.  I've noticed the same thing happening on aging batteries.  I'm afraid I've got a dog.  I could return it, I suppose, but I always find myself in the same situation.  Having a poorly working part is better than having none.  The other two batteries I've been using are on their last legs.  Since my supplier limits the number of spare parts I can order, I can get a sufficient number of spares to be picky.

Anyone else have similar problems.  How do you handle them.

The LED Light has absolutely nothing to do with the performance of a battery. Some suppliers limit what they sell, when they start to run low, to insure that everyone continues to have working units. I personally, raise , or remove my limits when I have sufficient product to last 3 months. I know of one supplier who sold 300 units a week, and then ran out of everything, instantly, when the FDA grabbed 2 shipments in a row.
